Hardwood floors, custom cabinets and a cathedral ceiling distinguish the kitchen and breakfast nook of this Rex Weiper home at Lochaven in Noblesville.

NOBLESVILLE -- When Matt and Brenda Hayes decided Rex Weiper would build their new house, they had confidence he would design and construct for them the perfect home.
They heard good things about the custom builder, and his quality workmanship. Weiper built a model at Noblesville's Lochaven, located on Cherry Tree Road just north of 146th Street.
"What we got is exactly what we wanted," Matt Hayes, 40, said. "We like the floor plan a lot, and it suits our big family."
The couple and their four kids in June will celebrate their first year in their Weiper-built house in Noblesville's Sagamore development.
The Hayeses said their building experience was exciting and invigorating. The builder was honest, made good suggestions and promptly addressed issues, they said.
"Rex was very receptive to my involvement," Matt said.
"Not everyone can call their home builder a friend," he said. "Rex is both."
"Whenever any issue or concern arose, Rex took care of it," Hayes said. "Things are bound to happen, but we really trusted Rex and had confidence in him."
The Hayes' two-story Georgian Colonial features a large kitchen and eating area, windows in the basement, a family room with a fireplace and built-in shelving, and spacious bedrooms and basements, Hayes said.
"I was definitely after spaciousness," he said. "I like that this is a livable house for my kids to grow up in and enjoy."
He praised the hardwood floors on the first level, and the hardwood floor and balcony in their master suite.
Weiper said buyers appreciate the niceties he builds.
"I'm a real fanatic for attention to detail," he said.
Weiper's model in Lochaven is 2,999 square feet. The house, with a basement, is $589,900.
The landscaped, four-bedroom home features a facade of brick and cedar shakes with decorative shutters, brick and wood accents, arched details, gables, covered porches, and a three-car garage angling from the house.
The entry features a stained-glass door topped with an arched window. From the entry, visitors can view the dining room with its floor-to-ceiling windows, crown molding, and a two-step ceiling.
Arched openings and paneled columns separate the foyer, dining room and great room. The great room features built-in bookcases, a fireplace, cathedral ceilings, and expansive windows. A study with cathedral ceilings and large windows is off the foyer.
The kitchen and breakfast nook feature a breakfast bar, cathedral ceilings and an elliptical window. A door from the nook goes to the patio.
The master suite features triple windows, crown molding, and a two-step ceiling. The suite's personal bath offers a whirlpool tub, his-and-hers vanities, and a walk-in shower.
A second bedroom suite is off the kitchen. The adjacent laundry room features built-in cabinets, and the mudroom includes a bench.
The lower level includes two bedrooms sharing a bath. A built-in bar with paneled columns, built-in bookcases, crown molding, and a fireplace with a custom mantle are featured in the family living area. A recreation room has space for a pool table. There is also unfinished storage space.
Lochaven offers rolling hills, a 52-acre lake, and proximity to Prairie View golf course.
Weiper builds 10-12 homes per year and in custom-home communities. His homes range from 2,000 to more than 13,000 square feet and are priced from $250,000 to more than $2.5 million.
"I've done about every kind of floor plan," Weiper said.
Weiper is president of the Career Education Center Builders Inc., a trade school for Indianapolis Public Schools. He is past president of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis. Weiper has earned builders' association awards for best of show, architectural design, and interior decorating.
Weiper said he has been in the business for 32 years and has repeat customers.
He said, "We're friends before, during and after the building process."
